Why leaders feel stuck

The hidden power of aligning with your core values
Many leaders are so focused on driving results, meeting goals, or adapting to what’s expected of them that they lose sight of what truly matters.
Without a clear connection to your values, it’s like navigating through life without a compass.
You may be moving forward but unsure if you’re heading in the right direction.
Values aren’t just lofty ideals but the foundational guideposts that ground us.
When we aren’t clear on our values or living in alignment with them, it creates an inner disconnect that impacts everything—from our personal happiness to the culture we cultivate within our teams.
Here’s the truth: values are more than just words—they’re your internal compass.
When aligned with your values, every decision becomes more purposeful, every action feels more authentic, and every challenge seems less daunting.
This alignment brings clarity and fulfilment to your life and strengthens your ability to lead effectively.
Think of some of the most successful companies, like Google, LinkedIn, and Zappos.
Their strong, values-driven cultures didn’t just happen by chance.
These companies identified what mattered most and used those values as a compass to guide their growth, decisions, and culture.
You, too, can cultivate this alignment—not only within yourself but also within your team—building a culture that feels cohesive, inspired, and purpose-driven.
Exercise: Values elicitation
It's essential to revisit our values continually, especially as we are continually growing and evolving.
It is best to reevaluate them every six months to ensure we are staying true to ourselves.
When you know your values, you will make decisions quickly and change your
mind slowly.
The following questions will help you elicit your leadership values. Write down your answers to the following questions:
What type of leader do you ultimately want to be?
What is the future you want as a leader and what values would you be needing to live out that future?
Based on your current experiences and results, what are your values? What are you currently valuing right now?
Which values are you loving?
What values are you not loving? What is it costing you to have them? What's the gap?
What values would you like to have more of?
Notice if there are any values that are doubled up by closely linked words and decide which value lands better with you.
Prioritise your values. The order of your values is the order of your priorities. Which value is really the foundation of all the other values? That is number one.
